How CDHCI-Funded Care Supports Safe Aging in Place in Alberta
Many seniors in Alberta want to remain in the comfort of their own homes as they age, but staying there safely often requires the right support. The Client Directed Home Care Invoicing Program, or CDHCI, helps eligible Alberta residents access home care services. These services can make aging in place more realistic and manageable for seniors and their families.
What Is Aging in Place and Why Does It Matter?
Home is more than just a place to live. Home is comfort, memories, routine, and independence. Aging in place means staying in your own home as you grow older while maintaining as much comfort, routine, and independence as possible. For many, moving to a retirement community or assisted living facility can bring major changes to routine and lifestyle. It can also feel like you have less control over daily life.
But aging in place is not always simple. That is where the CDHCI Program helps eligible Alberta residents and their families access the care they need at home.
How CDHCI Makes Aging in Place Possible
CDHCI supports aging in place by giving eligible Albertans access to home care services that support safety, comfort, and overall wellbeing at home. Depending on individual needs and approved services, support may include help with personal care, daily tasks, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and respite for family caregivers.
This kind of support can make a meaningful difference in both physical and emotional wellbeing. Help with bathing and dressing can reduce the risk of injury. Assistance with meals and routines can support health and consistency. Respite care can give family caregivers time to rest and recharge while knowing their loved one is in good hands.
What Families Should Know About Getting Started
Getting started with CDHCI-funded care usually begins with an assessment through Alberta Health Services (AHS). If AHS approves a senior for the program, they receive authorized hours for eligible home care services and can choose a provider, such as Care At Home Services, from the Alberta Blue Cross registered vendor list.
From there, families can work with their chosen provider to arrange services that fit their needs and schedule. Because every situation is different, it helps to work with a provider who can explain the process clearly, coordinate services, and help families feel confident about the next steps.
