What is the Client Directed Home Care Invoicing Program?
Alberta’s Client Directed Home Care Invoicing Program (CDHCI) lets individuals and families manage their own care by choosing providers and customizing services. Care At Home Services partners with Alberta Blue Cross to support this flexible model. We match the approved Alberta Blue Cross rate 100%, so clients receive the full value of their funding with no out-of-pocket costs. Our experienced team is here to assist every step of the way by helping with planning, staffing, and delivering compassionate, high-quality care tailored to each client’s goals.
How to Set Up Alberta Client Direct Care (CDC) with Care At Home Services
Step 1: Contact Alberta Health Services (AHS) for an Assessment

Call AHS Continuing Care Access at 1-855-371-4122 or contact your local AHS office.

Request an in-home assessment for home care services.

A Case Manager (usually a nurse or social worker) will assess eligibility and care needs.
Step 2: Request the Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) Option

If eligible, ask to enroll in Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI), Alberta’s version of Client Direct Care.

This allows you to choose your own care provider and have services funded through Alberta BlueCross at a fixed hourly rate.
Step 3: Register with Alberta BlueCross

AHS will coordinate your enrollment with Alberta BlueCross, the administrator of CDHCI.

You will receive a monthly funding approval based on assessed care hours.

Funds are not given directly to you but are paid to the service provider once invoices are submitted and approved.
Step 4: Contact Care At Home Services

Reach out to Care At Home Services and inform them you are a CDHCI client through Alberta BlueCross.

Ask to set up care at the AHS-approved funding rate, so you don’t pay out of pocket.

Care At Home will help you develop a personalized care plan based on your needs.
Step 5: Sign a Service Agreement

Sign an agreement with Care At Home Services, outlining care hours and services within your funded budget.

We will direct bill Alberta BlueCross on your behalf.
Step 6: Begin Services and Maintain Communication

Care services will begin as scheduled.

Care At Home Services will handle billing and submission of hours to Alberta Blue Cross.

You may receive monthly statements for transparency, but you won’t be charged personally as long as services stay within your funding limit.
